Chapter 9
Later, Michael was back in his dormitory room considering what his next steps would be. He picked up his phone to play a simple word game. Mental distractions like these often helped him consider his next steps in solving big problems. He had been doing this since he was a young child, although back then it was crossword puzzles and word searches. Sudokus are now is favorite, as he had never seen them when he was younger. Today, with everyone owning a smart phone with tons of apps, he could download various word games onto his device, although the math games he found at the app store were just too simple for him.
That was when an unusual thought popped into his head. Why not take a, selfie of himself and print it off for those at the other end of the wormhole to see? He could take a set of tongs and pass the photo through the wormhole to those on the other side. Once that was done, they would have a visual reference of what we look like. With some luck, they would do the same thing and provide him with their photo. In a sense, it would be the equivalent of exchanging a small gift for each other. No valuable gift on earth could come close, as we have no idea what is valuable there, and vice versa. But a photograph is invaluable and would tell them much about us.
So Michael used his cell phone to take a few different selfies and afterward he scrolled through them, finally selecting one he thought would be a good example for the wormhole. He wanted one that he felt conveyed a nice person and a good representation of what people here on Earth look like. Of course this was an earthly assumption that may be meaningless to them, but it made Michael feel better. Then Michael deleted the remainder of the ones on his phone that he felt were not good enough for sending through the wormhole. Later he would run the idea by David for his input. He had no idea what he would say, but it never hurt to ask him.
That evening Sarah and Michael met with David once again at the dining room for dinner.
âAfter dinner, Iâm flying home for a week,â commented David.
âDo you have big plans for your week off?â asked Michael.
âRest and relaxation. But I am not really going to be off work, just away from this work site. I hope youâll call or email me with any new discoveries or findings on your project. I sure donât want to wait until I return here just to learn all about your progress.â
âNo worries, weâll keep you in the loop. Besides, you already told Michael to keep a journal of everything and send it to you regularly,â replied Sarah, with Michael nodding his head in agreement. âBesides, Michael told me this was your child,â She commented, and managed to tease both David and Michael in one shot.
